  • TampaRep and ThinkTank Theatre have teamed up to produce two amazing productions for this holiday season.

  • It is our intent to try to cast the same actors in both shows (to the extent possible).

  • We are planning 20-26 hours of rehearsal per week (split between shows) on evenings and weekends.

  • Please prepare two contrasting monologues that display your range and ability, not to exceed three minutes.

  • Both AEA and Non-Union performers are invited to this audition. AEA Special Appearance agreements may be requested for these productions.

  • COVID UPDATE: All actors may audition, but actors who are not fully vaccinated must wear a mask. For the health and safety of our staff and casts, ThinkTank will require proof of vaccination for adults and children 12 or older in order to be eligible to be cast in the show.

Casting is open to all artists regardless of gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, age, neurodiversity, disability status, citizenship, or any other aspect which makes them unique. Please let us know if you would like to request specific accommodations.

SEEKING:

An ensemble of excellent actors, both adult and youth, to play various roles. The intent is to double-cast roles in THE GIVER with roles in THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT-TIME. The roles in CURIOUS INCIDENT include:

CHRISTOPHER JOHN FRANCIS BOONE (male identifying, any race or ethnicity, age 15-25) – The narrator and protagonist of the story. Fifteen-year-old Christopher is mathematically gifted, and struggles for social acceptance and understanding as a result of his apparent autism. He views the world largely in absolutes, dividing his life experience into a series of extreme likes and dislikes. He feels most comfortable with logic and order, making Wellington’s murder an irresistible puzzle for him to solve. He resides with his father and pet rat Toby at 36 Randolph Street.

SIOBHAN (female identifying, any race or ethnicity, age 25+) – Christopher’s primary teacher at school. An even-handed mentor, she works to expand Christopher’s horizons socially as well as academically. As a result, she is one of the few people whom Christopher trusts.

MR. ED BOONE (male identifying, any race or ethnicity, age 35-50) – Single father of Christopher.. Loving, but quick tempered, stressed and frustrated with his situation in life. prepares meals for Christopher and sees to his daily needs. He always has Christopher's best interest at heart. Drinks a bit to cope.

MRS. JUDY BOONE (female identifying, any race or ethnicity, age 35-50) – Christopher’s mother. Loving, impatient and volatile, at times overwhelmed by the difficulty of caring for her son. Christopher believes she died of a heart attack prior to the time when the story begins.

ACTOR ONE (female identifying, any race or ethnicity, age 25+) – plays: Mrs. Shears / Mrs. Gascoyne / Woman on Train / Shopkeeper

ACTOR TWO (male identifying, any race or ethnicity, age 40-60) – plays: Roger Shears / Mr. Wise / Duty Sergeant / Man Behind Counter / Drunk One

ACTOR THREE (male identifying, any race or ethnicity, age 20-50) – plays: Policeman / Mr. Thompson / London Policeman / Man With Socks / Drunk Two

ACTOR FOUR (male identifying, any race or ethnicity, age 50+) – plays: Rev. Peters / Uncle Terry / Station Policeman / Station Guard

ACTOR FIVE (female identifying, any race or ethnicity, age 20-30) – plays: No. 37 / Lady In Street / Information / Punk Girl

ACTOR SIX (female identifying, any race or ethnicity, age 50+) – plays: Mrs. Alexander / Posh Woman

JONAS – (Male identifying, any race or ethnicity, age 12-18) An intelligent and courageous boy with the Capacity to See Beyond.  He has been selected to become the next Receiver of Memory for the community, which entails holding society's memories and providing guidance to the Elders, become something like a prophet. He gradually becomes disillusioned with his society and is eventually faced with the choice either to continue being The Receiver or to take action to place his community on a new path. (Members of our Young Artists Ensemble Company will be first considered for this Role.)

 

ASHER – (Male identifying, any race or ethnicity, 12-18) A cheerful boy who sometimes rushes his words and his actions carelessly, he is Jonas's best friend. He receives the Assignment of Assistant Director of Recreation. Asher does not understand when Jonas tries obliquely to share his new knowledge with Asher. (Members of our Young Artists Ensemble Company will be first considered for this Role.)

 

FIONA (Doubles as Rosemary) – (Female identifying, any race or ethnicity, 12-18) A sweet and patient girl with red hair for whom Jonas has romantic feelings, she trains to become a Caretaker for the Old. The divide between her and Jonas grows over the course of the play. (Members of our Young Artists Ensemble Company will be first considered for this Role.)

 

LILY – (Female identifying, any race or ethnicity, 9-15) Jonas's younger sister, she is a chatty and vivacious girl who shows an interest in taking care of new children. Although she can be insensitive, she takes a lively interest in discussing her surroundings. (Members of our Young Artists Ensemble Company might also be considered for this Role.)

 

FATHER – (Male identifying, any race or ethnicity, 30-60) A kind and caring man who works as a Nurturer and who often plays with Jonas and Lily, he nevertheless follows his training and releases infants when deemed appropriate. 

 

MOTHER – (Female identifying, any race or ethnicity, 30-60) A worker at the Department of Justice, she often shows a more practical side than Jonas's father in their conversations with the family. 

 

THE GIVER – (Male identifying, any race or ethnicity, 40-70) The previous Receiver of Memory, he serves as a tutor and a mentor for Jonas, introducing Jonas to new concepts as he transmits the memories. Although he suffers terribly as The Receiver, The Giver took more years than Jonas to realize the necessity for action and change in their society, and by the end, his experiences with Jonas cause him to realize that he can help the community in a similar manner. 

 

LARISSA - (Female identifying, any race or ethnicity, age 50+) An older woman in need of care.

THE CHIEF ELDER – (any gender, any race or ethnicity) The leader of the community, she presides over the Ceremony of Twelve.
